Early retirement plans foiled
Wednesday, June 11 10:38 a.m. La Conner Retirement Inn called for backup after a man decided to check in without a reservation — or permission. Deputies responded to one of the cottages where they found the subject actively downsizing the belongings, claiming they belonged to his mother (who was not present to approve his task list.) While it was affirmed his mother lived there, it was clear his visit was unscheduled. The man’s behavior was off-script and conversations were unproductive. Eventually, he agreed to leave and was advised not to resume his project without his mother present. 200 Block Second Street.
Not Coming Up Roses for Deer
Wednesday, June 11, 3:57 p.m. A westbound driver on Washington Street found herself in a fender-bambi situation when a deer leapt into action from the bushes and collided with the side of her car. Law enforcement arrived to find the vehicle sporting significant doe-side damage. The deer, unfortunately, had reached the end of its trail. Swinomish Fish and Wildlife responded to handle the remains, while the driver bucked up and was able to hoof it home behind the wheel. Washington Street near Maple Avenue.
Just Horsing Around
Thursday, June 12, 5:44 a.m. Caller reported a possible equestrian entanglement, claiming a horse was stuck in a fence. But when a deputy arrived to trot the line, all was stable and serene. After a thorough walk of the pasture, no horses were found in distress — just a field full of unbridled calm. The horses were in good health. It seems this was a case of much ado about neigh-thing. Choppy Situation
Thursday, June 12, 9:30 a.m. Anacortes Police requested backup to help cut to the chase on a recent hardware heist. A few days earlier, a man saw an opportunity when he trimmed the inventory and walked out of a hardware store with a $700 chainsaw — no receipt, no hesitation. The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office sliced into the case and located the suspect at a residence in La Conner. After a sharp interview, deputies were able to carve out the truth and recover the stolen chainsaw. The suspect may soon face charges…once the Anacortes Police file the final cut. 400 Block Caledonia Street.
Wagging A Tail
Friday, June 13, 7:00 p.m. Caller reported an abandoned pup left to fend for itself in a parked car. But when the deputy arrived, they found nothing ruff about the situation. The owner was out with the dog, who appeared paws-itively happy and healthy. Nothing fetching to report here — just another tail of concern with a happy ending. First Street.
