For the second straight week, a La Conner High student-athlete has earned headlines on the Skagit Valley Herald sports page.

Versatile Braves volleyball player Nora McCormick, a 5-foot-6 junior middle blocker/outside hitter, was named a Herald Athlete of the Week for Oct. 8-14 after filling the stat sheet in league matches against Coupeville, Mount Vernon Christian, and Concrete.

McCormick accounted for 53 kills, 24 digs, and seven service aces across the three contests.

McCormick has been a mainstay for a La Conner team that despite having no seniors on its roster has compiled an 8-7 mark thus far on the campaign.

A week earlier, the Herald sports staff had tabbed La Conner High boys’ soccer scoring leader Kale Navarette Higgins as an Athlete of the Week Award recipient after he recorded seven goals and five assists during three matches from Oct. 1-7.

On the season, Navarette Higgins has scored 20 goals for a 6-5-1 Braves squad.
