Her coach says she’s the spark plug that ignites the La Conner Braves girls’ basketball team.

And, true to form, Maeve McCormick helped La Conner hit on all cylinders in recent hoops wins over Friday Harbor, Concrete and Darrington.

McCormick paced the Braves with 18 points and seven assists in a 69-30 triumph over Friday Harbor on Jan. 12, then delivered 10 points and 11 rebounds the following night when La Conner defeated Concrete 61-25.

Despite foul trouble, the Braves senior managed eight points when La Conner fell 50-31 at Mount Vernon Christian on Jan. 16.

For her efforts, McCormick was named the Skagit Valley Herald Girls’ Athlete of the Week for Jan. 12-18.

She picked up where she left off last Friday by netting a game high 29 points in a 76-8 La Conner romp at Darrington.

On the season, McCormick is scoring just under 13 points per game for the Braves, who boasted a 12-5 mark entering this week’s action.
