12:38 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13 A driver stopped properly at the stop sign on Maple Avenue and was rewarded with an unexpected tap from behind. The driver behind them was cited for following too close and for driving without motor vehicle insurance, proving, once again, that tailgating is not a contact sport. Morris and Maple
A quiet passage
9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 Port security requested a welfare check on an RV occupant who had not been seen for several days and had stopped paying nightly site fees. Deputies found the RV locked and unresponsive. Looking through the windows, they observed a deceased male inside. Fire assisted with entry, and the coroner responded to take custody of the subject for further examination. The death does not appear suspicious. La Conner Marina

2:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15
A male guest rented a room for the night, selected a few hundred dollars’ worth of items from the gift shop, and asked that the charges be added to his room before leaving for the evening. The following morning, his credit card was declined and he refused to pay. After checkout, staff located all items in his room. No charges were filed.
Unmasked at last
10:50 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17
Two teens, already familiar to downtown businesses, returned wearing masks and harassing pedestrians, customers and store owners. The behavior escalated when a store owner confronted them, resulting in a physical altercation. Deputies arrested both teens, who were later released to their parents.
