Blueberry season has officially arrived at Hedlin’s Family Farm. Hedlin’s is picking its own berries, and when demand outpaces the harvest, the farm is supplementing with certified organic blueberries from Hayton Organic Berries. As always, the farm clearly labels where every product comes from.
The produce cooler is also filling up with fresh-picked favorites. Alongside Hedlin’s signature French lettuce — a tender cross between oak leaf and butter lettuce — shoppers will now find carrots, cauliflower, pickling cucumbers, basil, Napa cabbage and hefty heads of broccoli harvested from the farm’s fields.
And don’t overlook the peaches. Brightstar and Early Red Haven varieties from Okanogan are now in season, bringing plenty of sweet, juicy flavor to the table.
The flower fields are beginning to bloom as well. Fresh-cut bouquets, sunflower bunches and fragrant lavender bundles are available now, with pick-your-own flowers expected to open soon.
As summer crops take center stage, a few spring favorites are saying goodbye. Rhubarb, spring greens and garlic scapes have wrapped up for the season, and strawberries have made their final appearance until next June.
Looking ahead, there’s even more to anticipate. The farm’s final cherry harvest—affectionately called the “danglers” because the fruit hangs deep in the center of the trees, growing larger and sweeter — is expected this week. Pluots and additional peach varieties are also on the way, and if the weather cooperates, the first ears of sweet corn could arrive in just two to three weeks.
