Swift water, swift save at Bowman Bay
2:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 Reports swirled in from Deception Pass after two kayakers found themselves swept up in the currents. One was tossed onto the rocks at a cliff base and stranded, while the other was scooped up by a quick-thinking civilian boater. The Sheriff’s Office rescue boat based in La Conner was able to respond with two members of the Sheriff’s Office and one member of Fire District 13. They braved the churning waters, plucked the stranded paddler (and kayak) from the cliffs, treated her cuts and scrapes, and brought her safely to Bowman Bay where waters and nerves were calmer. Imaginary offense, real concern
7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 Deputies responded to a welfare check after Adult Protective Services reported concerns about a subject describing multiple crimes that may not have happened. Officers made contact, untangled the confusion, and helped resolve the issues. Park Street.
From BC with bumps
2:25 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 Deputies are looking for a BC-plated RV after it allegedly backed into a parked car and cruised off. A witness left the details, but it’s possible the driver didn’t even feel the bump. We’re glad to see Canadian tourists returning … though preferably with loonies for lattes, not RVs for rammings. No Cause for alarm, just cause for care
1:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14 Adult Protective Services requested help verifying the well-being of a resident. Deputies and aid workers were welcomed in by the caretaker and found the subject in good health and proper care. Channel Drive.
Trike heist at the Inn
10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 Deputies are investigating the midnight vanishing act of two $2,500 electric trikes from the Retirement Inn. Cameras caught nothing. Looks like the thieves pulled off the perfect cycle-logical crime. N First Street.
