The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community tore down its old waterfront property on S. First Street last week, marking the start of efforts to create safer, more accessible conditions for future use. According to the community’s website, the work is a step toward revitalizing a historic site that was once used for oyster sales in the 1940s and, more recently, as an open-air market.

As part of the revitalization, the Swinomish Shellfish Company plans to host pop-up oyster sales this spring and summer. The Swinomish Development Authority is working on long-term plans for the property and will provide updates as the project progresses.
