Fred Cayou, Jr. edged out former longtime tribal chairman and past two-term National Congress of American Indians President Brian Cladoosby 186-144 to succeed retiring incumbent Sophie Bailey in the contest for Swinomish Senate Seat No. 1.

In the race for Senate Seat No. 2, Alana Quintasket, the governing panel’s vice chair, gained re-election by a 188-141 margin over Didgwalic Wellness Center counselor Holle Edwards, who was making her first — but likely not her last — run for the senate.

Cayou and Quintasket will each serve five-year terms running to 2030. They will take their oaths of office on March 4.
