Summer is winding down and if you have not made it to the Museum of Northwest Art yet, now is the time. MoNA has three exhibitions on display and they all come down Sept. 28. It is the perfect excuse to slow down, step inside, and soak up some art before fall sweeps us all back into our busy routines.
Through the Light: The Sublime in Contemporary Northwest Art
The Pacific Northwest has a way of stopping us in our tracks. A glint of light on the water, fog rolling over the fields, or a sunset that feels like it was painted just for us. “Through the Light” gathers artists who have found ways to capture that feeling on canvas. From Drie Chapek’s large sweeping paintings to intimate pieces that pull you in close, the show is a reminder of how deeply connected we are to this place we call home.
Aaron Loveitt: Succession, Within a Landscape Unfolding

Aaron Loveitt’s three monumental sculptures “Revere, Reap, and Recover” are made from salvaged aluminum and fill the gallery with their presence. Together they tell a story about where we have been, where we are now, and where we might be headed as a region. Loveitt’s work invites you to walk around, sit with it, and think about how the Northwest landscape is changing before our eyes.
At the Seam: MoNA’s Permanent Collection
MoNA’s own collection takes center stage in “At the Seam.” This thoughtful installation pairs historic works like William Cumming’s mural of Skagit agriculture with more contemporary voices, showing how Northwest art continues to evolve. It is a chance to see the region’s artistic story stitched together in one place.
These exhibits are worth the trip. Stop by before Sept. 28, bring a friend, and give yourself an afternoon to linger in the galleries.
