LA CONNER — Planning Commission Chairman John Leaver resigned Thursday in a brief email to Mayor Marna Hanneman, Town Planner Ajah Eills, and fellow Commissioners Sommer Holt and Bruce Bradburn.

“I have ‘issues’ with some aspects of how the town is being administered and commission vacancies are filled. Therefore I am resigning from the Planning Commission as of today, August 14, 2025,” Leaver wrote. He did not elaborate and did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

His departure comes just two days after the Town Council appointed two new members to the five-person panel. On Tuesday, council members approved the appointments of Maya Ojalchto and Timothy Corey, replacing Cynthia Elliott and Carol Hedlin, who abruptly resigned last month.
