Town officials approved the final change order…

Town officials approved the final change order for La Conner’s new fireboat. The $2,131 adjustment with Fulltime Fabrications covers a winch, lock box, and seat cushions. Town Administrator Scott Thomas said the vessel is scheduled for delivery later this summer, followed by sea trials and a testing period. The approval completes the project’s contracted adjustments, allowing staff to focus on training and preparation for emergency operations along La Conner’s waterfront.

The Council approved guidelines for a logo competition as part of its fall brand creation and website redesign project. A Town Staff Logo Team will select five to 10 top submissions, and the council will narrow them to three finalists. The public will then vote for a new logo during a 90-day submission period. The project aims to reflect the town’s identity and engage the community in shaping its official branding.

Council member Rick Dole proposed a resolution honoring Tami Mason, manager of La Conner’s WaFd Bank branch, for her contributions to local civic events. Mason has supported numerous town initiatives, including the recent Classic Boat and Car Show.

Public Works Director Brian Lease said E&E Construction is removing the elevated cement island on Washington Street near the post office. The structure, which held a mail drop box, became unnecessary after First Street became one-way southbound last October. Its removal will create four new parking spaces along the post office’s south side.

*La Conner Chamber of Commerce Director Mark Hulst said the Visitors Center on Morris Street received 393 tourism-related contacts in July, 59 of those from Canadians. “We’re seeing an uptick,” he said. “It’s nice to see some of our Canadian friends are making their way back.” Hulst was referring to an earlier decrease in the volume of British Columbia visitors to La Conner due to trade policy friction between the two countries.
