Red, white and woo-hoo! La Conner’s Fourth of July parade may have only lasted 10 minutes, but it packed in a whole lot of holiday cheer.

The brief but spirited parade marched down First Street on a sunny afternoon, drawing a festive crowd decked out in patriotic flair, including Corey Catubo, who watched from her usual perch on the sidewalk.

“I’m the lady who stands on the corner and yells at everybody,” Catubo said, glittering in red, white, and blue Mardi Gras beads, peace sign accessories bobbling in her hair. Her husband bought a “massive swag party pack” to help them celebrate in style before heading to an evening house party.

Catubo said she was thrilled to see the sidewalks packed with neighbors and visitors again. “More and more people are coming to the parade now,” she said. “With COVID (in 2020), people didn’t come out, but look around. Now it’s back.”

Despite its short run time, the parade captured the essence of small-town celebration: community, color, and a collective sense of pride.
