La Conner said “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” a fabulous night and got one — the Pride Drag Show, which lit up the Swinomish Yacht Club on June 14 with major Dancing Queen energy, raising over $1,700 for LGBTQIA2S+ youth and local inclusion efforts. With glitter, heels, and a standing-room only crowd, joy took center stage.
La Conner Pride Drag Show raises funds, celebrates inclusion
La Conner’s Pride Drag Show delivered glitter, glam, and heart—raising $1,700 for inclusion and LGBTQIA2S+ youth.
Organized by the La Conner Thrives Association in partnership with the House of Touché, the sold-out event featured drag performances and community celebration during national Pride Month. About $1,000 will be donated to The Trevor Project, a national nonprofit providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQIA2S+ young people. The remaining funds will support LCTA’s work to promote community connection and equity in La Conner.
Although attendance was originally capped at 100, the event drew about 115 guests and 20 volunteers.
“We didn’t want to turn anyone away from an event focused on fostering inclusion. So we pulled out a few more chairs and the rest of us were standing,” said LCTA Executive Director Nicky McGarity.
Dozens of local businesses have supported the first annual La Conner Pride events this year by hanging promotional posters and donating items for silent auctions, said Kee Hinckley during their opening speech at the show Saturday. Hinckley emceed the event and coordinated with the House of Touché.
A committee of LCTA volunteers, chaired by Christina and Robyn Burdick-Good-Rubenstein, brought Saturday’s show to life, motivated by a shared mission to foster belonging and joy.
