La Conner Arts Foundation awarded four $2,000 scholarships this year to support local students pursuing visual arts education.
The 2025 recipients are Avery Eco of Mount Vernon High School, who plans to study graphic design; Samantha Jepperson of Sedro-Woolley High School, who will study architecture at the University of Washington; Landon Steele, also of Sedro-Woolley, who will pursue filmmaking at Washington State University; and Grace Matson, a Western Washington University student continuing her studies in graphic arts.
This marks the foundation’s first “continuing education” award for an enrolled college student. No applications were received from La Conner High School students.
Scholarship funds are raised exclusively through the annual Art’s Alive event in La Conner. In its four-year history, the foundation has awarded 10 scholarships.
The nonprofit foundation supports scholarships and art education. According to Sheila Johnson, president and co-founder of La Conner Arts Foundation, its mission is to do “good deeds through the arts.”
Donations may be made at laconnerartsfoundation.org or during the 40th anniversary Art’s Alive celebration this October at Maple Hall.
