Yoga mats and notebooks will roll out side-by-side during “Atomic Bliss – Ecstatic Voice – Deep Embodiment – Celebration and Praise,” a three-day yoga and poetry workshop to be held June 20-22 at Maple Hall in La Conner.
Led by Anusara Yoga master teacher Madhuri Martin and teacher, poet, performer, and “storyista” Judyth Hill, the workshop combines movement and creative expression to guide participants toward “atomic bliss.” All levels of yoga and writing experience are welcome.
Martin and Hill have taught together since 2001, helping students integrate yoga and writing as pathways to deeper presence, embodiment, and joy.
“We are born with incredible tools for ecstatic living — our senses, remembrance, imagination, intuition and ability to express, to tell our story, sing out from a deep place in our Knowing,” Martin said. “These two practices belong together.”
Hill says writing is a sacred and transformative act that strengthens the body’s voice. Her workshops foster creative risk-taking through deep listening, poetic craft, and joyful presence. “Writers saw that Asanas and pranayama invite the body to have a voice that shows up exquisitely on the page,” she said.
Anusara Yoga, which means “to flow with grace,” is a heart-centered, alignment-based practice rooted in non-dual tantric philosophy. It emphasizes strength, flexibility, and spiritual awareness. The workshop’s arrival in La Conner was sparked by Anusara teacher Alexis Britton, who trained with Anusara founder John Friend and now teaches at Dancing Camel Yoga Studio in Anacortes.
The fusion of poetry and yoga may seem unconventional, but the instructors say their union unlocks a powerful, life-affirming practice. “Yogis saw that our most enlivening practice needs us to awaken to our ever-changing personal story,” Martin said.
“Our voices in the world are supported by strength, flexibility, and grace,” Hill said.
