Bud Moore, who twice served as mayor of La Conner and advanced a slew of civic causes here by blending boundless energy with wit and humor, has passed following a brief illness, Town Council member MaryLee Chamberlain confirmed Monday afternoon.
Chamberlain, who last week had worked on a resolution citing Moore’s many achievements and tireless devotion to La Conner, said the retired U.S. Air Force officer and national collegiate rowing champion died Sunday night.
“Lisa was able to read the draft resolution to him earlier in the weekend,” Chamberlain said, referring to La Conner Elementary teacher Lisa Hedlund, one of Bud and Lynn Moore’s daughters.
Moore, who for many years was a distance runner, had remained active into his 90s, regularly taking strolls with Lynn on the La Conner boardwalk. He had only stepped down as treasurer of the Skagit County Pioneer Association within the past couple years.
A more complete account of Moore’s remarkable life will follow in an upcoming edition of La Conner Community News.
