Five La Conner athletes won individual titles and both sprint relays as the Braves hosted the NW2B/1B Track & Field Championships at Jack Whittaker Field on May 1.
Sisters Faith and Kiana Jenkins and Nora and Maeve McCormick led the girls’ team to a second-place finish behind Mount Vernon Christian. Coupeville placed third.
Faith Jenkins swept the 100 (12.92) and 200 meters (26.87), while Kiana Jenkins took the 400 (1:01.81). Nora McCormick won the 100 hurdles (17.13), and Maeve McCormick cleared 8-6 to win the pole vault. Together, the sisters claimed relay wins in the 4×100 (51.95) and 4×200 (1:48.43).
Finley Hancock, Aisley Zimmerman, Reese Bird, and Lydia Grossglass earned silver in the 4×400 (5:00.57). Hancock also placed fourth in the 1600 (6:15.77). In the 300 hurdles, Maeve McCormick (54.77) and Nora McCormick (54.97) finished fifth and sixth.
In field events, Izzy Villard placed second in both the shot put (25-7.5) and discus (85-7). Bird was fourth in discus (83-1) and third in javelin (87-5). Josie Adams placed fifth in discus (80-2), and Addie Wigal was fifth in javelin (81-3). Zimmerman placed fourth in both triple jump (28-3.75) and pole vault (6-6).
Flint Huizenga led the La Conner boys to fourth place overall, winning the javelin with a 144-6 throw. He also placed third in shot put (37-4.25) and fourth in discus (112-0). Alex Dowry took third in the javelin (139-5).
Freshman Yandel Rosales-Rojas placed second in the 100 (11.81), fifth in long jump (18-7.5), and sixth in triple jump (35-5.5). He also ran the first leg of the second-place 4×100 (45.67) with Simon Bouwens, Maxwell Page, and Keaton Bailey.
Bouwens was runner-up in both the 110 hurdles (17.41) and 300 hurdles (45.54). Page placed second in the 200 (25.67), and joined Bailey, Dowry, and Vireo Angell to take fourth in the 4×400.
Josh Dowry placed fourth in pole vault (10-6), and Evan Magil was sixth in shot put (33-6).
The Braves return to action May 7 at the Northwest Bi-District Meet in Coupeville.
