In a world that sometimes feels too fast, too digital, too disconnected, it’s moments of generosity that ground us — reminding us of the real, tangible ways community thrives.
Take our new community table, built with care and skill by Mike Carlisle and Rick Shorten. They took an old door, infused it with new life, and created something remarkable — a beautifully stained, solid, heavy table that now anchors our office. We’ve already held board meetings, staff meetings, and copy reviews around it, shared ideas, and envisioned the future of La Conner Community News. And we know this table will witness countless conversations, laughter, and connections for years to come.
And then there’s the La Conner chapter of the Soroptimists, who didn’t just help us set up a kitchen — they made our space feel like home. Glasses, towels, mugs, and a dish rack might seem like small things, but they make everyday work smoother. Then, they went above and beyond, adding mirrors, a doormat, even hanging the mirror themselves — thoughtful touches that make our office more comfortable, more welcoming, more like a place where good work can happen.
These acts of kindness are what make La Conner special. It’s not just about the things given — it’s about the spirit behind them. Generosity builds community, and we are beyond grateful for those who show up, give freely, and make our shared spaces more beautiful.
To Mike, Rick, and the Soroptimists — thank you. Your kindness will ripple out far beyond our walls.
To our incredible volunteers who help with distribution and to every subscriber who has shown us patience and enthusiasm — thank you. This past week stretched us in ways we never expected, as demand for subscriptions soared beyond our wildest dreams. We’re working hard to make delivery smoother, more reliable, and even a little more fun. Hang in there — we’re growing together!
