Nathan Bailey pitched a no-hitter, Angus Poprycz drove in four runs with a double and a single, and La Conner romped past the visiting Concrete Lions 16-0 Tuesday, April 1 in the NW2B/1B baseball opener for both teams.

Bailey, who fanned the first eight batters he faced, finished with 13 strikeouts over five innings. He also helped his cause with a single during a seven-run third inning La Conner outburst.

Bailey’s gem was the second straight complete game tossed by a La Conner hurler. Kaleb Otis had thrown a one-hitter in the Braves’ 12-2 non-conference home victory over Muckleshoot Tribal School March 28.

Against Concrete, Otis was behind the plate and threw out a Lions runner trying to steal second with one down in the fourth. Concrete had just two baserunners for the entire game, both of whom drew walks.

Otis helped ignite the Braves’ relentless attack with a pair of singles. C.J. Edwards and Kamien Lopez also ripped base hits for the victors, who improved to 2-1 overall on the campaign.

La Conner led just 2-0 before putting up a seven-spot in the third. The Braves tallied another seven runs in the fourth.

La Conner and Concrete meet again April 3 in game that has been moved to Janicki Field in Sedro-Woolley. The first pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

Across campus on April 1, the La Conner softball team fell 28-15 to Concrete in the league debut for both squads. The Braves, who dropped to 0-5 overall, took solace in posting their highest run total of the season.

No stats of the La Conner-Concrete softball game were immediately available.

The La Conner bus will drop Braves’ baseball players off in Sedro-Woolley, then deliver the softball team to Concrete for the April 3 contests.
