Independent local news. Every week.

I’ve recently made a very important decision: When I die and get to Heaven’s Gate, I’m going to choose to become a bird. How great will it be to be able to keep an eye on my kids and grandkids. They obviously won’t know it’s me but that’s alright.

Bird’s have become one of my obsessions along with Karaoke and Crossword Puzzles. I have several bird feeders in the front and back of my house and I spend a lot of time when I am home watching the birds. Occasionally, squirrels jump on the feeders and spill the seeds so I let my Golden Retriever Rosie out and she immediately chases them away.

I spend hours watching birds from my feeders, dreaming of flight. One day, I hope to see the world from their view.

I’m curious how far I’ll be able to travel as a bird.  Will I have to stay in the Northwest? Will I be able to travel to Southern California, where I have three sons, and stop in Vancouver Washington to see my daughter, and Oregon to see another son? My kids won’t know it’s me but that’s okay. How wonderful would it be to able to cover that much territory from an awesome perspective.

Birds are amazing. They have great visibility and they are able to launch themselves high in the sky when something is threatening to them.

I’m going to request being an Eagle because I love seeing so many Eagles on electric wires when I drive through Skagit County.

I’ll see you when you drive by, and you’ll see me, but you won’t know it’s me.
