The La Conner Community News is a nonprofit news organization stepping in to fill the void left by the closure of the La Conner Weekly News in December. We are dedicated to providing reliable, inclusive journalism that serves the town of La Conner and the Swinomish Tribal Community, ensuring that every voice in our region is heard and represented.
We’re embracing a modern, digital-first approach as we gear up for operations. Our plan includes three main news platforms: this newsletter, arriving in your inbox every Monday with important news and upcoming events; our flagship website, launching next month; and a weekly print edition, debuting later this spring. This strategy acknowledges that news happens continuously while also honoring the enduring appeal of a print newspaper.
As a nonprofit, we’re actively fundraising to build a foundation for long-term success, and we’re working with national journalism organizations to secure fiscal sponsorship for tax-deductible contributions. Our fundraising target for 2025 is yet to be finalized, but the figure will cover startup costs and put the newspaper on track for long-term success. By supporting La Conner Community News, you’re not just funding a newspaper—you’re preserving the shared stories and connections that define our community.
Will you join us in ensuring a vibrant future for local news? Pledge your support today!
Sincerely,
Kari Mar, Publisher
& Staci Baird, Managing Editor
